First guilty plea to criminal cartel conduct by individual under Australia’s criminal cartel laws

Christopher Kenneth Joyce, former export manager of Alkaloids of Australia Pty Ltd, has pleaded guilty to criminal cartel conduct. The conduct involved price fixing, bid rigging and market allocation between Alkaloids of Australia and other overseas scopolamine-N-butylbromide (SNBB) suppliers.

Joyce was charge with criminal cartel offences in December 2020. He has been committed to the Federal Court for sentence.

Proceedings are continuing against Alkaloids of Australia, which has yet to enter pleas in criminal charges. The matter is listed for 9 November 2021.
