ACCC does not oppose Metcash’s proposed acquisition of interest in Total Tools Holdings

The ACCC has announced it will not oppose Metcash’s proposed acquisition of a 70% majority interest in Total Tools Holdings (franchisor of Total Tools network).

Metcash is a wholesaler and retailer of hardware through Independent Hardware Group, including Mitre 10, Home Timber & Hardware and others. ACCC considers IHG compete more closely with ‘multi-category hardware stores’, like Bunnings. Total Tools competes more closely with tool specialists. Nationally, post-acquisition, there would still be strong competition from Bunnings and specialist tools and equipment suppliers. Locally competition was also likely to remain strong and effective.
